Emanative come through yet again with a collaboration blessed with the experience and wisdom of one of the worlds great underground jazz elders, the co-founder of the legendary Detroit based independent label; Tribe Records, trombonist, Phil Ranelin.
This one is indeed a very special release and is coming out on limited edition 7” vinyl, with all contributions artistic and otherwise being donated and all proceeds once again going to Gilles Peterson’s Steve Reid Foundation, of which Nick Emanative is a trustee.
Recorded at fellow trustee; Sam Shepherd’s Floating Productions Studio – with both the studio time and the skills of in house engineer Tim Pennells also generously contributed to the cause.
Written by Phil Ranelin, arranged by Emanative and the band and produced and mixed by Nick Woodmansey.
This, of course, couldn’t have been done without the combined creative energy, lovingly donated to the charity by Phil Ranelin & the Emanative band:
Phil Ranelin – Trombone
Simon Finch – Trumpet
Ben Hadwen – Tenor Sax
Tamar Osborn – Baritone Sax
Jessica Lauren – Wurlitzer & ARP 2600
Suman Joshi – Bass
Vince Vella – Percussion
Phillip Harper – Congas

“While commemorating the life and legacy of Steve Reid, the Steve Reid Foundation aims to help people working in music who are in crisis, especially those suffering from illness. We also seek to support emerging new talent through education and information initiatives. We want to see a world where people working in music, especially those who have devoted their lives to it, are able to get the help they need when they need it most. The Foundation provides grants to individuals in need, as well as other non-profit organisations that help people working in music, such as PRS Foundation and the Jazz Foundation of America”
Also in association with the Steve Reid Foundation – Phil Ranelin will be over to play two very special dates in the U.K. later this summer:
Jazz Cafe on August 1st
Band On The Wall on August 4th
He’ll be accompanied by an all-star band of London musicians:
Robert Mitchell
Neville Malcolm
Ben Hadwen
Rod Youngs
Supported by an Emanative DJ set at both shows.
