Acquaint yourself with Chicago-based future-jazz quintet mindswimmer and their eclectic new single ‘elevation’.

With a sound that’s hard to classify the quintet continues to explore new styles. On last year’s Between Spaces album, the group created an ambient tribute to a former collaborator. Before that, the band released The Dinner Party which channelled a trip-hop aesthetic. It also hinted at where their music was headed.

‘elevation’ is a 12-minute genre-hopping composition influenced by the golden age of hip-hop, while simultaneously paying tribute to the pioneering electronic artists of Düsseldorf (Kraftwerk, Neu!).

Out now via Stellar Nursery Records, a label founded by three members of the group.
