Nubya Garcia announces new EP When We Are; shares title track

Nubya Garcia will self-release new EP When We Are next month.

London tenor saxophonist Nubya Garcia has now announced details of her new EP titled When We Are.

The first song to be unveiled from it is the title track and you can listen to it below via the Bandcamp player. Assembling a stellar cast of young jazz musicians like Joe Armon-Jones (Piano/Wurlitzer), Daniel Casimir (Double Bass) and Femi Koleoso (Drums) the record features another new composition called ‘Source’ as well as remixes from two generations of London’s finest producers, K-15 and Maxwell Owin.

The new EP follows Garcia’s stunning cut on Brownswood’s recent compilation We Out Here, and her 2017 debut EP Nubya’s 5ive for Jazz:refreshed.

Speaking about the EP, Garcia said via press release:

“I’ve been inspired a lot by the producers around me at the moment, people like Ben Hayes, Tom Misch, Joe Armon- Jones, Jake Long and Maxwell Owin”, said Garcia. “There’s an electronic vibe in there that I wanted to explore more, and this release feels like a positive evolution from the last EP.”

Drawing on elements from Afro-Caribbean, Latin, broken beat, and gospel, Garcia has crafted a unique sound, with sophisticated, yet powerful grooves laid on top of crisp and emotive rhythms.

When We Are is out on March 8th. Pre-order it via Bandcamp and check out the album artwork and tracklist below.
