Album Of The Week: Hieroglyphic Being, Sarathy Korwar, and Shabaka Hutchings. A.R.E Project

★★★★★

What began last year as an intriguing improvised session streamed on NTS Radio has become the first release for the A.R.E. Project.

The collaborative project composed of producer Hieroglyphic Being percussionist and producer Sarathy Korwar and saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings performed a 100% live improvisation session at the iconic Lightship95 studio in London and recorded over 2.5 hours of music across two sessions.

Their debut release titled “A.R.E. Project” (abbreviated from “Association For Research & Enlightenment features four sinuous avant-jazz and astral electronics tracks from the sessions edited down to give us a snapshot of the session.

Hieroglyphic Being, Sarathy Korwar & Shabaka HutchingsFrom the deep electronic movements that weave in between the gentle percussion and evocative sax on “The Doctrines Of Swedenborg,”  to the warm ambience of “Dimensions Of Frequency & Vibrations” and the transcendent closing track “Ashrams” this release simply essential.

With such talent on display, it’s unsurprising that “A.R.E. Project” is quite frankly stunning! Our only complaint is we’d love to hear the entire thing.
