Between The Cracks: 5 New Releases You May Have Missed

Between The Cracks

With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for new music to drop online and go unnoticed. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five releases that may have slipped past your radar. Stream music from Yazmin Lacey, Morgan Guerin, The Heliocentrics, Project Karnak and Blue Lab Beats. If you like what you hear, support the artists.

Yazmin Lacey – Black Moon

We’ve been waiting on a project from Yazmin Lacey for a while now since hearing her single “7th Root” towards the end of last year. What you get with “Black Moon” is 6 tracks of Lacey’s incisive songwriting with lots of different moods. The EP was written and produced by Lacey and the Running Circle featuring members of Three Body Trio. This is EP sounds so fresh and vibrant, all six tracks are ace!

Morgan Guerin – The Saga II

Young jazz talent Morgan Guerin returns with his second album. New LP titled Saga II follows on from his stunning debut release The Saga and finds Guerin exploring electronic experimentalism. Having grown up in a musical household Guerin had the good fortune of being exposed to jazz from the Marsalis family, Donald Harrison, Christian Scott, among many others. With a reputation that is steadily growing, he is most certainly an artist to watch very closely.

The Heliocentrics – A World Of Masks

On their fourth album, London jazz collective The Heliocentrics are joined by the young Slovakian singer called Barbora Patkova. The result is an album that takes the band, already solidified in ever-expanding grooves and rhythms into new previously unexplored dimensions.  The Heliocentrics just keeps getting better and better. This album is just amazing.

Project Karnak – Equinox

This debut EP from Project Karnak is something that we’ve been eager to get our hands on for a while. The new project of Triforce’s Dominic Canning, and Sam Ouissellat got us excited when they dropped their debut single Fellowship back in March. On Equinox they blend a mix of high-energy drums with fluid and mercurial jazz chord progressions,  with funky guitar from  Alex Blake and slick bass courtesy of  Martin J Stephens. Great EP all around and one we’ll be playing for years.

Blue Lab Beats – Movement

London duo Blue Lab Beats return with their second EP following their debut effort Blue Skies. There’s definitely growth on Freedom EP which is helped in no small part by some very talented players including trumpeter Yelfris Valdés, guitarist Sheldon Agwu, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, rapper Louis VI, poet Kojey Radical and singer Tiana Major9. Blue Lab Beats is a breath of fresh air breathing new life into today’s Hip Hop and jazz scenes.
