Album Of The Week: Gaby Hernandez – Spirit Reflection

Gaby Hernandez
★★★★☆

Over a year since its original release Los Angeles singer-songwriter, Gaby Hernandez‘s third album Spirit Reflection breathes new life via Brighton based label Mr Bongo.

Although a relatively new name to many Hernandez started writing and recording way back in 2001. As a founding member of the “creative music ensemble” Build An Ark, she worked alongside the likes of Carlos Niño, Dexter Story who both feature on the album and Dwight Trible.

The album also features many more of the crème de la crème of LA music talent including jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, Lapalux, multi-instrumentalist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker who all lend their considerable talents to go with Hernandez with stunning results.

Speaking about the record Gaby says: “I’m so honoured to have worked on Spirit Reflection with so many beautiful people! They each helped bring forth pieces of my inner world to share with the outer world! Eternally grateful.”

Over the course of ten exceptional tracks that range from jazz to folk to psychedelic, you’ll find the gorgeous vocal harmonies of Hernandez intertwined with a warm West Coast feel that creates a unique, beautiful and multi-layered album.

With a beautiful, serene vibe throughout, it sets the perfect mood for anyone looking to get up close and personal with that special someone or just unwind after a hard day.

It’s hard to pick a favourite track from such a sublime release, so we won’t. Just hit play and we promise you will not be disappointed in any way with this masterpiece.

Spirit Reflection is out now via Mr Bongo.
