Album Of The Week: Hampshire & Foat – Galaxies Like Grains of Sand

Hampshire & Foat
★★★★☆

The ever brilliant UK Jazz Pianist Greg Foat has teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Warren Hampshire to collaborate on a new project drawing on an eclectic array of influences.

Galaxies Like Grains of Sand is like a grand musical playground where classic British library music, 60s Italian soundtracks and lost Americana as well as touches of jazz and folk.

The 8-track album features members of Greg and Warren’s previous bands and the exceptional talents of the jazz drummer, Clark Tracy.

The pair pulls out all the stops recording with a full orchestra and all analogue to tape and mixed down on a fully analogue desk from tape direct to the old Sun studios 1/4 Valve tape machine.

Together, the Foat and Hampshire create an absolutely stunning and beautiful album that grows and grows the more you listen to it, unearthing deeper sensuous sounds.

Galaxies Like Grains of Sand is out now via AOTN – buy from Juno or Athens Of The North.
