How about something new and something old from multi-instrumentalist Diggs Duke? Two exquisite musical offerings from the talented artist. First up is a track called “The Seeding” and proceeding that is “The Poet” a track originally featured on the site late last year.
“The Seedling” was recorded in 2017 in Baltimore and Washington DC. The song’s lyrics were adapted from Paul Laurence Dunbar poems entitled ‘The Seedling’ and ‘Fulfillment.’ Its music is a synthesized loop which has been extracted and edited from a digitized piano roll of Eubie Blake’s hit, ‘Love Will Find A Way.’
(Yes, I played the drums on this track.)
“The Poet” was recorded in 2015 in Washington DC. The song’s lyrics were adapted from Paul Laurence Dunbar poems entitled ‘Compensation’ and ‘The Poet.’ Its musical production is centered on an organ sample from a German classical recording of great Bach compositions.
The video above is a ‘flash film’ entitled “Consecutive Phrases”. It is divided into three parts, mostly unrelated:
I. Getting To The Gig
II. The Cat Feeds Itself
III. I Can Build
Filmed between 2012 and 2016 in Washington DC, London and San Francisco. Scored with music from existing albums and with new music and sound created for this visual. Diggs Duke
