Unique and adventurous, like the man himself, Lascelle Lascelles (aka Lascelle Gordon) shares the highly inventive Blackism by his new project Vibration Black Finger.
As one of the leading DJs at London’s Wag Club in the 80s, he earned a reputation as an eclectic and adventurous musical spirit, before going on to found Acid Jazz pioneers The Brand New Heavies, staying with the band for five years.
Innovative and forward thinking Blackism draws influence from 70s spiritual jazz and post-punk evoking a bit of electric Miles, a dash of the Chicago Underground modes and some A Certain Ratio.
Over the course of forty minutes, Laselle joined here by a stellar cast of musicians that include Maggie Nicols, RocketNumberNine drummer Tom Page, Andy Knight, Nick Doyne, Ben Cowen, Frank Byng of Snorkel and more. The collective creates ten intense, thought-provoking and undeniably original collection of eccentric tracks.
Tracks such as “In Rhythm,” “Sawalha,” “Ofilli” and the title track are some of many highlights on an album full of great stuff.
