Between The Cracks: 5 Albums You Need To Hear

Between The Cracks 02.12.16

With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for new music to drop online and go unnoticed. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five records you don’t want to sleep on. Stream music from TriForce, Jaubi, Suzanne Kraft, Bohjass and RC & The Gritz. If you like what you hear, support the artist.

TriForce – 5ive

South London-based quartet TriForce delivers a top notch 5-tracker via jazz:refreshed. The band joins Richard Spaven and Kaidi Tatham with the release of the labels trademark 5ives series. Fusing jazz with grime, hip-hop, electronic and funk this project is definitely a thrilling introduction into what the foursome has to offer. We’re predicting big things ahead. Dive in below.

Jaubi – The Deconstructed Ego

“Jaubi is a collective of musicians hailing from Lahore, Pakistan who expertly blend Indian Classical music with Jazz, and Hip-Hop. Jaubi (جو بھی) is an urdu word roughly translating to “whatever”. They create whatever sounds good and whatever feels good. The album skips around genres brilliantly while always retaining a complete Indian classical style sensibility. Press play and enjoy.

Suzanne Kraft – What You Get For Being Young
Recorded in Amsterdam over the course of May 2016, “What You Get For Being Young” offers a full immersion into Kraft’s ever-evolving world. Lush, digital manipulated synths spread across cold surfaces, metallic drums dance around skeletal song structures. Whilst echoes of “Talk From Home” remain, they are but faint echoes, as Kraft’s recent exploration into sound-design and digital manipulation confidently posits “What You Get For Being Young” as an entirely new chapter in the artist’s growing narrative.  It’s still unmistakably Kraft the same but slightly different and very, very good.

Bohjass – Invisible Desert

New music from the Tim Pledger lead band Bohjass. “Invisible Desert” roams a barren hinterland of free jazz minimalism that swims in the midst of a rock and roll heart whilst indulging in the heady scent of a wet and pulsing earth. Really great thrilling jazz album full of depth and emotion.

RC & the Gritz – The Feel

The Gritz Band is more of an eclectic super-group than your average hip-hop band. Known by some as Erykah Badu’s band. Founded by Band Leader RC WIlliams in 2004, the group is made up of a diverse mix of musicians from across Texas and whose repertoire includes, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Soul Music. Fans of The Internet should pay close attention to this stellar release.
