Harvey Sutherland’s latest project marks the inaugural release for freshly minted label Clarity Recordings, an imprint established by Sutherland for modern Australian records. Featuring his live trio Bermuda the two tracks of self-described “lounge room disco burners,” are a treat to the ears. On one side Priestess evolves slowly, a nine-minute mind dance that ultimately reaches a celestial state. Sutherland’s piano lines bounce off drummer Graeme Pogson’s steady four-on-the-floor, while one-man string section Tamil Rogeon travels skyward. On the flip Bravado is played with determined precision, locking into a fierce backbeat that only breaks once Sutherland’s warbling lead solo approaches its resonant peak. A mighty fine debut release on Sutherland’s new label. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
