Album Of The Week: Vanishing Twin – Choose Your Own Adventure

Choose Your Own Adventure by Vanishing Twin

I’ve been waiting for the debut album from Vanishing Twin since they wowed us with their single “The Conversation Of Energy” a few months back. The project led by Cathy Lucas draw on sounds outside of the everyday pop vocabulary; the group used forgotten drum machines, home-made electronics, vibraphones, tablas, and harp to invoke the esoteric psychedelia of lost soundtracks, radiophonic experiments, and minimal music orchestras. Every track is different, hopscotching over many styles ranging from jazz to psychedelia, but without losing focus. Featuring a host of uber talented musicians including drummer Valentina Magaletti (Tomaga), bassist Susumu Mukai (Floating Points), library music head Phil M.F.U.  Broadcast) on strange sounds, and filmmaker and visual artist Elliott Arndt on flute. This lot are the real deal.
