We’ve mostly ignored the slew of artist covering Prince’s timeless work since his tragic passing. Aside from Mac DeMarco’s psychedelic take on “It’s Gonna Be Lonely,” most have been relatively uninspired. However, The Bad Plus has reworked “The Beautiful Ones” and the cover specialists have come up trumps once again. The jazzy remake sees Reid Anderson taking care of the vocal parts on his bass while drummer Dave King cuts free with the rhythms.

“It has a great melody, interesting changes, and clear sections. And it’s dramatic,” Anderson explains. “It’s undeniably pop music, but it’s also a little strange. It kind of sums up Prince’s appeal in that way.”
