Composer Fiona Brice shares video for ‘Berlin’

Composer, arranger, and violinist Fiona Brice is known for her work with artists like Anna Calvi, John Grant, Midlake, Placebo, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and many others.

“I was so busy sustaining a living from music, and with other people’s music, I forgot to prioritise my own work, and lost sight of its potential,” explains Brice of the music. “Though I didn’t set out to make an album. The pieces were written over five years, but they started to hang together.”

Her debut solo album released last month features ten instrumental pieces as rich and cinematic as its ingredients are minimal; just violin, cello and piano, and a restlessly inventive imagination.

“Berlin is about clarity, symmetry and growth. For the video, I started thinking about spirograph imagery, and this led me to research drawing machines. I found a drawing machine designed by Alfred Hoehn online (a swiss academic and artist) and with his kind permission, video artist Vesna Krebs flew to Basel and filmed the machine in action. The result is a beautifully choreographed film, with no need for digital effects.” Fiona Brice
