Kendrick Lamar has surprised fans by releasing a brand new album called untitled unmastered. As the title suggest all eight tracks are untitled and unmastered. Each song comes dated with a specific day, month, and year, indicating that the songs were written and recorded at various points in 2013, 2014, and 2016. The release may have been drawn from a “chamber of material” that did not make the final cut of To Pimp a Butterfly as mentioned by Lamar in a recent interview.
“I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love [with], where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album,” he said. “But I think probably close to 10 songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut.”
Much liked the artwork the music is minimal and stripped back. The free jazz, Hip-Hop style complete with politically charged lyrics is in full effect and i’m looking forward to spinning this over the coming months. Stream below and grab a copy here.
