Chicago-based musicians Simple X and Midas Wells work may have slipped past our radar up until a few weeks back, but luckily there’s no expiry date on good music.
Having released two EP’s and a slew of fantastic remixes since 2010 the genre-blending duo known as Tensei continue to build a reputation of consistently merging different styles of music together.
Working with an array of Chicago’s best jazz, soul, and hip-hop artists, their music pushes the limits and boundaries of hip hop inspired beat making and production to a higher elevation.
Check out recent EP The Hot Box Sessions Volume #1 four tracks from “The Hot Box” the old studio they used to work in. “It was a very small room with no air conditioning, and when the door was shut it would get hotboxed.. these tracks are from our vaults during that era, in this case, the 2009-2010 range”. Tensei
Don’t be fooled into thinking that the four cuts on the EP are mere castaways from countless studio sessions from back in the day. They sound fresh and cutting edge with the duo deftly showcasing their production skills.
On a newer tip, Tensei is about to release a two-track effort featuring soul singer/multi-instrumentalist Khari Lemuel of The Purple Flames on one side and Hip-Hop artist ADaD on the other.
