We featured this track over on Stereofox today but felt it needed extra love on Twistedsoul – simply because it’s so damn good.
The East London hailing duo consisting of James Low (production) and Ade Omotayo (lead vocals) draw on influences ranging from UK bass and garage to modern classical, James’ sparse, hypnotic production offers the perfect counterpoint to the raw power and emotion of Ade’s voice. The pair tantalises the senses with new single “Old Habits”; a track that tackles a strong subject matter, battling with an addiction to alcohol. An elegant electronic dropback allows Omotayo to show off his seductively cool vocals; coupled with a guest verse to close the track out courtesy of Essa.
“When Essa agreed to rap on the track it all came together,” Low explained to The FADER. “He really vibed with the lyrics, which took their lead from the drunken synth sound on the chorus. The lyrics are inspired by creative people’s on-off love affair with alcohol; the verse from the perspective of the drunken besotted, the chorus the sober creative, and the pre-chorus the bottle. Essa wrote the perfect verse to end the track, reflecting on where that path can lead.”
Listen up and look out for their forthcoming EP out 6th November via Fresh Selects and Senseless Records. Pre-order the EP here.
