Stuart McCallum returns with another taste of new material from his forthcoming album titled “City”.
The former Cinematic Orchestra member steps even further into the world of electronica, while still maintaining that magical combination of both acoustic and electronic instruments that gives his music such a distinctive sound.
Teaming up with London-based drummer and producer, Richard Spaven, who he met during his time playing with Cinematic Orchestra, not only to perform but to co-write and produce the album. All eight tracks are co-written by McCallum and Spaven apart from today’s featured title track.
McCallum samples extracts of JP Cooper’s ‘Something You Can’t Have’ which play like glimpses of a city snatched from a car window. The quiet, free-form jazz is woven deep into the song, anchored by a beautiful ambient electronic sound to make for a unique and addictive combination.
Until we get our hands on that new album on August 28th, make sure you check “City”.
