Thundercat has shared a video for his recent single “Them Changes”. The track is from his newly released mini-album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam which boasts contributions from longtime collaborator Flying Lotus as well as Herbie Hancock, who plays keyboards on “Lone Wolf & Cub”; Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and Mono/Poly also contributed saxophone, strings and production, respectively.
The clip is directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada who had this to say about the video:
Thundercat’s take on heartbreak is so atypical that I figured the video for the song should be anything but a classic relationship-gone-wrong story. Stories like athletes’ careers ending after injuries or artists losing their site/hearing/ability to perform; these concepts are truly heartbreaking. I also know that Thundercat has a thing for samurais—so I saw an opportunity to make everyone happy here. Or everyone sad, I guess.
Watch Thundercat take on the way of the samurai in the video for “Them Changes” below.
