Just off the release of his debut LP, What’s Between, we get Tri-Angle Records, WIFE on production duties for a new track from Elliott Power. Kicking off with a dark atmospheric beat, Tricky-esque whispered vocals that switch to a more melodic, soulful chorus that comes out of nowhere, and just as quickly disappears, returning us to the pounding, menace that pervades the verses. It’s a welcome return from the elusive Londoner, who since dropping last year’s debut single “Sink / Swim”, has remained pretty silent to the point where his Soundcloud has been wiped clean. If Power has seemingly decided to start afresh, then consider “Portend” an interesting reintroduction into what this artist has to offer. I see great things coming. Check him out and support.
