19-year-old jazz singer/songwriter Billie Black has shared her second single titled “I Don’t Need Another Lover.” The young London newcomer has been causing a stir since dropping her debut track “I Waited For You” – released via Soundcloud just two weeks ago. At the age of 13 Black joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, which then led to a place on the Guildhall jazz degree (where she is now). At 14 Black went to the Brit School, where she was exposed to a broad range of music. Towards the end of her time there she started listening to James Blake, Jessie Ware, Sampha and Kwabs; acts who combine classic vocals with electronic production.
Tapping into the mellow and silky pop of our favourite UK soul singer Jessie Ware, Black’s buttery vocals drip all over a sultry electronic backing with subtle flourishes of organ. It’s all presented with complete understated elegance.
She’ll be releasing her first EP this summer and together with a band she put together, she’ll be giving her debut performance at Electrowerkz on July 15th.
Here below you can listen to the new track and to previous offering I Waited For You. Enjoy!
