Oakland based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Alison May, is set to release her sophomore album entitled Loved/Dark, next month via Misery Loves Co. Records. For those you who visit us on a regular basis, you’ll know that we are partial to a bit of folk every now and then. May has been plugging away performing, writing and recording out of Oakland, CA since relocating from Texas back in 2012. Having started out as a drummer, May’s musical curiosity was already pricked as her home town of Waxahachie was about an hour’s drive from anywhere. This meant she spent a lot of time in the car with her father, listening to artists like Jackson Browne, Nick Drake and Tracy Chapman. The influences are clearly imprinted on her new single “Raft,” a beautiful soulful-folk track that is hard to resist!
