London duo MF Robots drop by for our latest guest playlist, arriving just ahead of the release of their new album III (Part One) this Friday.
Coming together in 2013 as members of the Brand New Heavies, band founder Jan Kincaid and vocalist Dawn Joseph instantly clicked and began writing new songs within a week of first meeting. The duo returns with their third album, III (Part One), on Friday. The album is describes as “a celebration of life, love, and musical joy, radiating positivity from start to finish.”
Across eight tracks the duo pays homage to soulful greats while adding a modern twist. There’s a subtle nod to legends like Earth, Wind & Fire, but what truly shines through is the sense of fun—the feeling that MF Robots are having an absolute ball singing, playing, and creating music that moves both body and soul.
For their guest playlist, Kincaid has selected an array of tracks that shaped their ears and, by extension, their sound. You’ll hear music from Minnie Riperton, Ramsey Lewis, John Holt, James Carr, Marlena Shaw, Peggy Lee and more.
Hit play, settle in, and let music speak.
Throughout my career as a musician, songwriter and producer, if there’s one constant, it’s always been an exciting voyage of discovery of music. This has been the driving force of my passion, discovering music for the first time ,new artists , bands or a song I’ve never heard before that speaks to me, it’s like food.
This has meant that since I bought my first more adult taste record around the age of 11, I have really caught the bug, collecting and diving in feet first to all kinds of music.I still find that music holds a mystery to me that I find intoxicating, how a piece of music can move you, really shift your mood.
As a result of a lifelong interest in it, my tastes have really widened through many genres, some of which are reflected in my playlist..like many producers I listen to so much music, even when I’m not trying, I can be seriously distracted in any situation when I hear something, another thing I realised a long time ago, this is where my “research”for what I do lies…it all goes into my sponge of a brain, and I never stop learning or listening and draw on all this when I try to explore my own sound and emotional musical language…
I hope you enjoy some of the many things which have inspired me over the years.. KEEP LISTENING! Jx
