Jazz newcomers Vels Trio will drop their debut EP on Total Refreshment Centre’s freshly minted label next month. According to the label, the record  “demonstrates the virtuoso jazz talents of the band while maintaining the trippy hip-hop inspired funk that has come to define their sound.”. The 5-track project produced by Dan Leavers (The Comet Is Coming, Soccer96) and featuring the uber talents of Shabaka Hutchings encompasses an array of influences from Badbadnotgood to J-Dilla to Robert Glasper. Our first taste of the forthcoming record comes in the form of the complex and brilliantly original jam titled “Godzilla”. Give it a spin below.
