Now that we’ve shared our Top 10 Artist To Watch and Top 10 EP’s/Mini Albums, it’s time we reveal our ten favourite songs from 2015. Of course, this list could easily have stretched to over 100 tracks but were keeping things brief but comprehensive this year. We’ve trawled through our massive music library  to find the tunes that have been in constant rotation at Twistedsoul HQ. In our humble opinion, and in no particular order are the 10 Best Songs of 2015.

 

Annabel (lee) – Believe

What we said: The duo project, from Annabel (lee) and Richard E, invokes the haunting classicism of Claude Debussy and Erik Satie, intermingled with the quiet folklore of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, tipped with the jazz stylings of Miles Davis and Billie Holiday. 

 

Kamasi Washington – The Rhythm Changes

What we said: As a listening experience, the album is best consumed in its entirety but standouts “Change Of The Guard,” “Miss Understanding,” “Henrietta Our Hero,” “Clair Du Lune,” “Re Run Home” and “Seven Prayers” truly highlight Washington’s skill at creating meticulously arranged compositions.

 

Eska – Rock Of Ages

What we said: If this is your first taste of ESKA, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised and comforted by her timeless composition.

 

Thundercats – Them Changes

What we said: Virtuoso bassist and singer-songwriter Stephen Bruner aka Thundercat returns to the Brainfeeder fold with his first solo material in two years, having already made outstanding contributions to not one, but two, of the greatest albums of 2015 – To Pimp a Butterfly and The Epic – by fellow Los Angelians Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington.

 

Holy Forest – Africa Calling

What we said: Throughout the course of the album, he incorporates different elements into each song that will have you wanting to hear a bit more from him.

 

D’Angelo – Really Love

What we said: The Neo soul legend that is D’Angelo has made good on the promise made by his manager Kevin Liles with his first studio album in fourteen years.

 

Kendrick Lamar – Alright

What we said:   This new song sees K. Dot come out fighting delivering some food for thought on the racially-charged track, it’s totally the opposite to his self-affirming ‘i’. His voice is angry and his lyrics are sharp and to the point.

 

Björk – Lionsong

What we said:   Following the leak earlier this week, Vulnicura, the new album by Bjork, has just been released on iTunes, two months ahead of its official physical release on CD and vinyl. As we perviously mentioned, Vulnicura features production from the likes of Arca and The Haxan Cloak, and from what we’ve heard so far, its bloody damn good.

 

Floating Points – Silhouettes (I, II & III)

What we said: Ahead of his highly anticipated new album “Elaenia”, Sam Shepard aka Floating Points presents us with “Silhouettes” a track composed of music from Silhouettes (I, II & III).

 

Tame Impala – Let It Happen

What we said: Tame Impala have released the epic, almost eight-minute long new song “Let It Happen.”
